KNOW MORE ABOUT THE 20 FILIPINO VALUES AS NCCA CELEBRATES FILIPINO VALUES MONTH

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 479 signed on October 25, 1994, declaring the month of November of every year as Filipino Values Month, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), in collaboration with KLUBI Weavers Organization joins the whole nation in celebrating the 2023 National Observance of the Filipino Values Month (FVM) this November.

 

Dubbed "Bálay Pinoy", the month-long celebration is designed to utilize the NCCA Values Formation Program materials as learning and teaching tools. The program is one of the flagship programs of the NCCA which aims to contribute to the enhancement of the Philippine social fabric towards building a high trust and a resilient society through the inculcation of values that foster the common good. 

 

The values were identified by answering the questions “What is important for Filipinos?” and “What do Filipinos value at the present?” Gathering the responses through interviews with key groups and individuals throughout the country, the research identified 20 core and shared values of Filipinos namely:

  1. Love for the Family and Community (Pagmamahal sa Pamilya at Pamayanan)

  2. Faith (Pananampalataya)

  3. Attaining Education (Pagkamit ng Edukasyon)

  4. Lifelong learning and adaptability (Pang-habang buhay na pagkatuto at kakayahang umangkop)

  5. Health and Wellness (Kalusugan at Kagalingan)

  6. Addressing Basic Needs (Pagtugon sa mga Pangunahing Pangangailangan)

  7. Ensuring Work and Livelihood (Pagtiyak sa Kabuhayan)

  8. Self-development /Self-improvement (Paghubog ng Pagkatao/Sarili)

  9. Life, Purpose, and Happiness (Buhay Tunguhin, at Kaligayahan)

  10. Resilience (Katatagan)

11. Resilience (Katatagan)

12. Honesty and Integrity (Katapatan)​

13. Respecting and Upholding Human Rights (Paggalang at                   Pagtaguyod sa Karapatang Pantao)

14. Shared responsibility for the common good (Pakikipagkapuwa)

For the celebration of Bálay Pinoy this year, the NCCA spearheads various activities such as school caravans in different provinces and seminars for educators and students.

Values School Caravan

​

Bálay Pinoy aims to bring its educational and entertaining program to selected schools across each Island Cluster. The school caravan utilizes the NCCA Values Formation Program materials as learning tools, allowing students to learn about the 20 Filipino Values in an engaging and interactive way. 

 

There will also be a program during the school caravan to entice the students, as the Balay Pinoy will integrate educational and entertaining performances performed by local talents. The program will provide a fun and memorable way for students to learn about the values that are essential to the locals. 

 

Through Balay Pinoy, students will be able to learn about Filipino values and are also given an opportunity to appreciate and celebrate the diverse traditions and cultures of the country.

 

The Mindanao leg of Bálay Pinoy will be in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato with an opening program on October 24, 2023 and a school visit at Santa Cruz Mission School, Inc. on October 25, 2023.

 

On November 13, the Bálay Pinoy Visayas leg which highlights the  Heneral Tuna Picture Book Launch and Turnover will be at Lahug Elementary School. Then, a school visit in Lapu-Lapu City Central Elementary School will be held on November 14.  

 

For Luzon and its last leg, Bálay Pinoy will visit Graciano Politico Dela Chica Mangyan School, Oriental Mindoro on November 23, 2023.

 

The month-long celebration will close in an elementary school in the National Capital Region in the first week of December.

Values Seminar for Educators, Values Education Majors, and Values Advocates

​

The NCCA recognizes the importance of educators as multipliers in Values Education. Bálay Pinoy, in partnership with various government agencies and private institutions, shall hold seminars and workshops to provide orientation and familiarize the educators with the 20 values, as well as the teaching materials produced by the NCCA. Target participants are Values Education Teachers, Values Advocates, and other government and non-government organizations adhering to values formation.

 

  • Webinar Series on Values Education in Celebration of Filipino Values Month This program is a Values Formation and Character Building in collaboration between NCCA and PSEP Inc. It highlights a series of Webinar focusing on strengthening values and virtues leading in the pursuit of PSEP, Inc Goals and Core Values, Mission and Vision, Learning and Development Strategic Direction and Realization of NCCA Values Formation Programs. It is a 3-day webinar which shall be conducted every Friday of November 2023. Target participants are members of PSEP Inc., Values Advocates, and other government and non-government organizations adhering to values formation.

 

  • Seminar for PNU Values Education Majors - This seminar is in partnership with Philippine Normal University Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences. Orientation of the 20 values and the NCCA Values components will be highlighted in this seminar. Target participants are the PNU Values Education Majors who will be deployed for practice teaching at schools, so that they may be equipped with materials that they can use during their on-the-job training.


 

The NCCA Filipino Values Month celebration was launched in 2021 as a digital creative communication campaign featuring the creative works produced for the program during the global pandemic. With the health restriction loosened in 2022, an onsite celebration was organized at the National Capital Region while continuously using the online platforms because of the positive reception from the online audience in the previous year.

 

Bálay Pinoy is a Proto-Austronesian word meaning house, used in many Philippine languages across the country.  It may also be read as Balay in other Filipino local languages, which refers to a structure where Filipino families develop a values system.
